Windows (WinSCP Portable)
These are the steps to set up FTP from a Windows computer to paprika. Any FTP program should work, but the instructions here are for WinSCP Portable, an FTP program.
1. Go to the WinSCP Portable website and download WinSCP Portable.
2. The download will be saved as a .exe file. Double click the .exe and follow the instructions to complete installation.
- On the choose install location screen, click browse to change where the file will be installed to. Installing the program to the desktop is fine, because it is a portable program.
3. When installation is complete, open the folder to where WinSCP Portable was installed. Click on WinSCPPortable.exe to start the program.
4. The first time WinSCP Portable starts up, the connection to paprika will need to be configured.
- In the Host Name box, type: paprika.umw.edu
- Keep port number at 22.
- User name and password are optional at this point. All this does is saves your username and password so it does not have to be typed every time the program runs.
- Under Protocol/File Protocol, select SFTP.
Click save. Saving session as paprika.umw.edu is fine.
5. paprika.umw.edu, or whatever you named it, will be available as stored session. Select the session, then click the Login button.
6. A warning dialog box will popup announcing the "server's host key was not found in the cache..." and the rsa2 key of paprika is displayed. This is saying that a connection to paprika has not been done before on the computer. Click Ok.
If username and password were saved in step 4, go to step 9.
7. Type in username for paprika.
8. Type in password for paprika.
9. You are now connected. You can now transfer files to paprika.
By default, the left window displays files from the computer you are using, the right window displays your directory on paprika.
