As an alumni of the Mary Washington College (MWC) Computer Science (CS) program, I am

against the addition of a Computer Information System (CIS) track. A CIS track is a watered down version of the Computer Science degree and will have a negative effect on the perception of the MWC CS program. The CIS "track" would need to be considered it's own major or be very strongly differentiated on degrees, otherwise it will have the effect of decreasing the value on all future CS degrees. I know for a fact that the Governemnt, in most cases, will not hire a CIS graduate for an open computer science position. What is to stop a MWC CS degree with the CIS track from passing (him)herself off as just a CS graduate? How will companies be able to tell the difference between a grauduate who completed the more difficult CS track and who went through the less demanding CIS track? These things must be considered or it will hurt all of the future graduates, who want the real CS degree, when it comes to finding a job.
