- The meeting started with a presentation from representatives of the honor council. There are approximately 12 honor violations processed per year. Steps of how a honor violation is processed were explained. If you have questions contact Sarah Payne (spayne@mail.umw.edu)
- Jennifer made a motion to approve the August 20th minutes.Stephen seconded. Motion passed. (One abstained)
- formally welcomed the student reps: Schli Hamadi and Aaron Clemmer.
- Update on renovations & lab availability. As of today, the Unix lab is currently available. The PC lab is available except for the graphics workstations. Number of computers in B12 will be less than 30. Jennifer requests having 3 additional computers installed. B13 has 30 computers. Marsha says that increasing the number of computers in the lab could potentially increase the number of students in the class. Jennifer says that if we have 28 computers we should limit class size to 25 since that gives us a buffer if some computers are broken. Minimally, Jennifer would like to have an extra computer reserved for the lab aide. Ernie thinks that it would be a good idea to have some empty/open space to allow people to bring laptops or put tables together to do group work. Everyone agrees to have 26 stations in each lab. New classroom capacities are B7 at 32 and B6 at 39. Soda & snack vending machines are coming. There is a current search to locate where to put the vending machines. Stephen recommends they put the vending machines immediately on either side of the elevator. Karen suggested putting sofas by the elevator. People seem to like that idea.
- Equipment request was submitted

- 2 replacement VmWare servers
- 2 SmartBoards for B6/B7

- Don’t forget to turn in your APW form due Aug 31.
- Marsha and Karen have a joint chairs meeting with Rosemary on Sept 29. Email Karen if you have issues that you’d like to raise.
- Senate Issues – Karen states that the Senate will vote for parliamentarian and third faculty representative for the dean search committee.
- Course offerings for Spring 2010. Survey results. 305 has 25 people interested in taking it in Spring; 310 has 17; 330 has 23; 350 has 30; and 401 has 23. One person wrote in 348, 3 wrote in 414. Karen says 310 is the most likely thing we can eliminate for the Spring (only one person is dependent on this being offered in the Spring). Ernie says that in our future plan we should move 310 to the Fall. He says it make sense to offer 330 in the spring. Karen wonders what if 350 stays in the Spring and 310 is in the Fall. Jennifer it prevents people who took 220 you couldn't take anything but 230. Marsha says the nice thing that having a 300 level course that could act as an elective (like 310) is that they could take it earlier in their schedule. Ernie says that if we took FSEM out and offer 105 then that offers a course for people who have 220 but not 230.
- Marsha reports that Jay Harper wants to set up a GIS center on campus. She also mentions that Gail wants to put a GIS concentration in the MIS program.
