Department meeting August 23, 2007 1:30pm
Present: Ernie Ackerman (Ernie), Karen Anewalt (Karen), Stephen Davies (Stephen), Jennifer Polack-Wahl (Jennifer), Ron Zacharski (Ron), Marsha Zaidman (Marsha)
- Marsha presented a summary of the 3 options dealing with summer school courses. The general consensus was that the department did not favor any of the options. The department would like more information about what the College's goals are for summer courses.
- We had a general discussion about planning for Gen Ed changes. Ernie suggested that someone in the department be in charge to make sure we get a draft of what we want to do before the deadlines. Stephen volunteered to do this.
- We updated the department role list. Ernie updated the wiki page [[1]] to reflect these changes.
- Marsha gave an update on the GIS certificate. She said it would take at least a year to finish the planning for this. While the department is unsure of the role it will play, the general consensus was that we would like to remain in the conversation.
- Regarding the Survey of Course Needs for Spring 2008, the decision was to survey those in 220 and up. Marsha will do the survey either Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday of next week.
- We had a general discussion of what materials we need for our meeting with admissions next week. We decided to go with our existing letter. Ernie will post the letter to Google Docs and Stephen will revise.
- Stephen made a MOTION to change the policy regarding CPSC491 to read "Students who wish to enroll in individual study CPSC 491 need to have successfully completed two Computer Science courses numbered greater than 302. Seconded by Ernie. Motion passed.
- Jennifer made a MOTION to change 499 in a similar way. Seconded by Ernie. Motion passed.
- Mixer was set for September 5 at 3pm. Stephen will organize
- Next department meeting will be on September 3 at 3pm. other meetings are Monday September 10 at 3pm and a meeting with admissions on August 29th at 3pm.
- Stephen gave us an update on LITE. Marsha requested that Stephen send an article about women's groups to the entire CS faculty.
