2008 Major
From MWCSWiki
This is what I've put together for our consideration on Monday Oct 22, 2007. To see what was proposed earlier, check out the history of the article.
Required courses for CS Major
- CPSC 125
- CPSC 220
- CPSC 230
- CPSC 305
- CPSC 326 – Theoretical Foundations of Computing (3)
- CPSC 330 - Object-Oriented Analysis and Design
- CPSC 350 - Database
- CPSC 401 OR 405
- CPSC 430 OR 491 OR 499 - Project based course
- this is the primary change. Requiring one of these courses makes sense for our majors, it gives them a chance to learn/experience more of software engineering (430), try a project of their own choosing (491), or get experience in a work setting (499)--Ernie 18:54, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
- 2 CPSC electives - one 300. one 400, or one 500; or two 400 or 500; or one 400 and one 500. CPSC 430,491, 499 cannot be used for this requirement for the previous requirement. The result of this is that only one instance of 491 or 499 can be used to satisfy the requirements of the major, --Ernie 18:54, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
- I'm not wed to requiring two electives. It's only here to boost the number of required credits. * 1 Math elective, Math 300 or higher.
- I think this should be an upper level math course, 300 or above. We want our students to have some sophistication in the area of mathematics, and we want our students to be classified as computer scientists by the feds --Ernie 20:30, 1 October 2007 (EDT)
hidden requirements Calculus I and II for CPSC 326 and for most upper-level math courses.
Required for CS major with concentration in CIS.
- CPSC 125
- CPSC 220
- CPSC 230
- CPSC 310
- CPSC 330
- CPSC 350
- as per Jen's renmarks I would say 350 instead of 414, it is imperitive that CIS know databases and the network is an elective in many programs. CIS could go the network, e-commerce, or web route. I suggest that as part of advising we would suggest one of the three depending on what they want to do--Polack 10:19, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
- CPSC 430 OR 491 OR 499
- BUAD 152,353
- ECON 200+
- 2 CPSC electives
- same type of choices as in the 'traditional' track.
- Math 200 - statistics This would have to remain a pre-req to keep under the 40 credit limit --Polack 10:19, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
hidden requirements - BUAD 151
This is over 40 credits CPSC core = 24 Business = 9 Electives = 9 credits and Math = 3 Credits......2 Courses Over --Polack 10:19, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
- I think this is taken of care of now by reducing the number of electives to two.--Ernie 18:54, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
